The California Incline in Santa Monica needed replacing. Originally built in 1886 as a pedestrian bridge and rebuilt in the 1930's, the slanted bridge/roadway was recently deemed "structurally deficient" and reconstruction began April 20, 2015. Three months later, I discovered the 100 ft bluff, just to the east of the roadway, was a uniquely raised perch to photograph the work. Over the next six months, I captured visual relationships between craftsmen, machines, materials, the old, the new, and the earth. A sample . . .
